February 29 – March 6 Devotional, wk9

During each week of 2016, a (1) devotional consisting of a reading (or listening) from Scripture, a (2) New City Catechism question and answer (newcitycatechism.com) for kidz and adults, the (3) primary scripture passage behind that Q&A along with a video commentary, a (4) prayer project for the week, and then finally, a (5) song of the week from the Reformation playlist, will be posted to queensreformation.org/devotional and to the “Devotional” portion of the Reformation Church App. On each Sunday following the devotional, the New City Catechism Q&A and the song of the week will be used during Reformation’s morning worship service.

  1. Read

    or listen to Bible Reading for the day in the Reformation Church App. For the week: Exodus 2-7; Mark 4:30-8:30; Psalm 30-32, Proverbs 12:27-13:12.

    Additional Devotions: Keller on Psalms, pp. 54-60.

     

  2. Memorize

    What does God require in commandments 1, ,2, and 3? (Kidz Memory in Blue)
    First, that we know and trust God as the only true and living God. Second, that we avoid all idolatry and do not worship God improperly. Third, that we treat God’s name with fear and reverence, honoring also his Word and works.

  3. Meditate

    Deuteronomy 5:7 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. Do not follow other gods, the gods of the people around you.

  4. Pray

FEBRUARY 22 – 28 DEVOTIONAL, WK8

    What is the law of God stated in the Ten Commandments? (Kidz Memory in Blue)
    You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below—you shall not bow down to them or worship them. You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Honor your father and your mother. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. You shall not covet.

  3. Meditate

    Kidz Memory: What does the law of God require? That we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves.

    Adults Memory: What does the law of God require? Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.

  3. Meditate

    Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

    Adults Memory: How can we glorify God? We glorify God by enjoying him, loving him, trusting him, and by obeying his will, commands, and law.

    Deuteronomy 11:1 Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.
