MARCH 28 – APRIL 3 DEVOTIONAL, WK 13

During each week of 2016, a (1) devotional consisting of a reading (or listening) from Scripture, a (2) New City Catechism question and answer (newcitycatechism.com) for kidz and adults, the (3) primary scripture passage behind that Q&A along with a video commentary, a (4) prayer project for the week, and then finally, a (5) song of the week from the Reformation playlist, will be posted to queensreformation.org/devotional and to the “Devotional” portion of the Reformation Church App. On each Sunday following the devotional, the New City Catechism Q&A and the song of the week will be used during Reformation’s morning worship service.

  1. Read

    or listen to Bible Reading for the day in the Reformation Church App. For the week: Exodus 28-34; John 2-5; Psalm 45-46, Proverbs 14:31-15:10.

    Additional Devotions: Keller on Psalms, pp. 94-97.

     

  2. Memorize

    Can anyone keep the law of God perfectly? (Kidz Memory in Blue)
    Since the fall, no mere human has been able to keep the law of God perfectlybut consistently breaks it in thought, word, and deed.

  3. Meditate

    Romans 3:10-12 There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.

    What does God require in commandments 9, and 10? (Kidz Memory in Blue)
    Ninth, that we do not lie or deceive, but speak the truth in love.
    Tenth, that we are content, not envying anyone or resenting what God has given them or us.

  3. Meditate

    James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.

    What does God require in commandments 6,7, and 8? (Kidz Memory in Blue)
    Sixth, that we do not hurt, or hate, or be hostile to our neighbor, but be patient and peaceful, pursuing even our enemies with love. Seventh, that we abstain from sexual immorality and live purely and faithfully, whether in marriage or in single life, avoiding all impure actions, looks, words, thoughts, or desires, and whatever might lead to them. Eighth, that we do not take without permission that which belongs to someone else, nor withhold any good from someone we might benefit.

  3. Meditate

    Romans 13:9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

    Fourth, that on the Sabbath day we spend time in public and private worship of God, rest from routine employment, serve the Lord and others, and so anticipate the eternal Sabbath. Fifth, that we love and honor our father and mother, submitting to their godly discipline and direction.

  3. Meditate

    Leviticus 19:3 Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.
