January 29 – February 5, 2017, wk 5

During each week of 2017, a (1) devotional consisting of a reading (or listening) from Scripture, a (2) New City Catechism question and answer (newcitycatechism.com), a (3) primary scripture passage behind that Q&A and a scripture to consider in prayer, a (4) prayer project for the week, and then finally, a (5) song of the week, will be posted to queensreformation.org/devotional and to the “Devotional” portion of the Reformation Church App. On each Sunday following the devotional, the New City Catechism Q&A and the song of the week (or a song from a previous week) will be used during morning worship service.

  1. Read

    Or listen to Bible Reading for the day in the Reformation Church App (Job 29-35, Matthew 15:10-18:35, Psalm 15-18, Proverbs 10:28-11:8).

  2. Memorize 

    What Else did God Create? (Kidz Memory in Blue)

    God created all things by his powerful Word, and all his creation was very good; everything flourished under his loving rule.

  3. Meditate

    Genesis 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

    1 Peter 2:9-10, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

  4. Pray

    “Thank God that he has chosen to show his wonderful grace to you and your church family. Thank God that those who are in Christ are new creations–a whole new nation of people. Pray that members of your church would increasingly act like the holy people God has declared you to be,” Rachel Jones, 5 Things to Pray for Your Church, p. 12.

    God created us male and female in his own image to know him, love him, live with him, and glorify him. And it is right that we who were created by God should live to his glory.

  3. Meditate

    Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

    There are three persons in the one true and living God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are the same in substance, equal in power and glory.

  3. Meditate

    2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

    What is God? (Kidz Memory in Blue)

    God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in his power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will.

  3. Meditate

    Psalm 86:8-10, 15 Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God…. You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
