Devotional

April 30 – May 6, 2017, wk 18

During each week of 2017, a (1) devotional consisting of a reading (or listening) from Scripture, a (2) New City Catechism question and answer (newcitycatechism.com), a (3) primary scripture passage behind that Q&A and a scripture to consider in prayer, a (4) prayer project for the week, and then finally, a (5) song of the week, will be posted to queensreformation.org/devotional and to the “Devotional” portion of the Reformation Church App. On each Sunday following the devotional, the New City Catechism Q&A and the song of the week (or a song from a previous week) will be used during morning worship service.

  1. Read

Or listen to Bible Reading for the day in the Reformation Church App (2 Chronicles 1-8, John 18 – 21, Luke 1:1-38, Psalm 59-62, Proverbs 16:29-17:10).

  2. Memorize

Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished?(Kidz Memory in Blue)

No, every sin is against the sovereignty, holiness, and goodness of God, and against his righteous law, and God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them in his just judgment both in this life, and in the life to come.

  3. Meditate

Ephesians 5:5-6 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Acts 2:41-42, Those who received [Peter’s] word were baptized…And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

  4. Pray

“Thank God that he has given the church ‘the apostles’ teaching’ in the pages of Scripture…Pray that your church would be devoted to learning from it together – whether that’s in Sunday services, Bible-study groups, or one to one. Pray that you would be committed to attending, even at the end of a draining day or hectic week. And pray that your hearts and minds would be engaged and stirred by God’s word as you meet week by week.” – Rachel Jones, 5 Things to Pray for Your Church, p. 20.

Pray for brothers and sisters in directory with last names starting with D, E, F.

  5. Sing

I Have a Shelter” is our song for the week:
