Devotional

JULY 2 – 8, 2017, WK 27

During each week of 2017, a (1) devotional consisting of a reading (or listening) from Scripture, a (2) New City Catechism question and answer (newcitycatechism.com), a (3) primary scripture passage behind that Q&A and a scripture to consider in prayer, a (4) prayer project for the week, and then finally, a (5) song of the week, will be posted to queensreformation.org/devotional and to the “Devotional” portion of the Reformation Church App. On each Sunday following the devotional, the New City Catechism Q&A and the song of the week (or a song from a previous week) will be used during morning worship service.

  1. Read

Or listen to Bible Reading for the day in the Reformation Church App (Isaiah 37:21-44:28, Acts 8:26-11:18, Psalm 88-89:37, Proverbs 20:10-20:16) Here’s a helpful overview on the book of Psalms:

  2. Memorize

Are all people, just as they were lost through Adam, saved through Christ? (Kidz Memory in Blue)

No, only those who are elected by God and united to Christ by faith. Nevertheless God in his mercy demonstrates common grace even to those who are not elect, by restraining the effects of sin and enabling works of culture for human well-being.

  3. Meditate

Romans 5:17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:42 And they devoted themselves…to prayer

  4. Pray

“It’s sometimes said that a church’s prayer meetings are like a spiritual barometer. So what’s the reading on your church’s barometer? Ask that a culture of prayer would permeate your church, and that God would make you into a people who delight in coming together to pray.” – Rachel Jones, 5 Things to Pray for Your Church, p. 21.

Pray for brothers and sisters in directory with last names starting with G, H, I.

  5. Sing

O Church Arise” is our song for the week:
